Dekaanin ehdotus Ph.D. Jingoo Kangin ottamisesta apulaisprofessorin (vakinaistamispolku, Tenure Track), Educational Science, especially Science Education Research, tehtävään: tiedekuntaneuvoston kuuleminen

Itä-Suomen yliopiston johtosäännön 10 §:n kohdan 9 mukaan dekaanin tehtävänä on tehdä ehdotus rehtorille kahdeksi vuodeksi tai sitä pidemmäksi ajaksi professorin tehtävään valittavasta sekä vakinaistamispolun tehtävään valittavasta tiedekuntaneuvostoa kuultuaan.

Apulaisprofessorin (vakinaistamispolku, Tenure Track), Educational Science, especially Science Education Research, tehtävä on sijoitettu soveltavan kasvatustieteen ja opettajankoulutuksen osastoon. Tehtäväkuvauksen mukaan: ”The Associate Professor in Educational Science (especially Science Education Research, a Tenure Track position) carries out science education research and participates in education in the field. Science education research focuses mainly on context- and inquiry-based science education, motivation, science performance and confidence among genders in education, and career aspirations, in international large-scale assessments and small-scale national and international studies. The Associate Professor will participate in the preparation and implementation of research projects, as well as in the application for external research funding. The Associate Professor will participate in the teaching duties of the degree programmes of the teacher education unit, supervise Master's theses and participate in the supervision of doctoral studies in the doctoral programme. The duties also include societal tasks, such as engaging in science communication and serving in expert capacity, as well as expert and administrative tasks.

The factors to be taken into account in the assessment include: scientific publications and presentations at scientific conferences, application for research funding, teaching and supervision merits and participation in academic and societal expert tasks.

A person to be appointed as an Associate Professor in the Tenure Track shall hold a suitable doctoral degree and have good teaching skills. Furthermore, a person to be appointed as an Associate Professor in the Tenure Track shall have the prerequisites for fulfilling the qualification requirements of a Professor by the end of the Tenure Track term (UEF University Regulations, section 31). Furthermore, the research activities of the person appointed to the post are required to focus on the aforementioned fields of research.

Fluency in the Finnish language is not required but the applicant must be able to give teaching and supervise students in English.

External foreign expert evaluation will be used in the recruitment.

The post will be filled for a four-year (4) term as from 1 April 2025.

The post is filled for a fixed term due to it being a Tenure Track position. A specifying agreement on the Tenure Track assessment criteria shall be prepared and appended to the employment contract, to be signed simultaneously with the person's employment contract. The agreement specifies what is expected of the employee during the term in order for them to proceed to the next level of the Tenure Track. The procedure by which an associate professor is invited to a professorship is based on expert statements.”

Apulaisprofessorin (vakinaistamispolku, Tenure Track), Educational Science, especially Science Education Research, tehtävässä on kyse PhD Jingoo Kangin eteneminen vakinaistamispolun tasolta toiselle. Yliopistotutkijasta apulaisprofessoriksi etenemistä on valmistellut dekaanin asettama tehtäväntäyttötoimikunta (dekaani Janne Pietarinen pj., yliopistonlehtori Kristiina Lappalainen ja professori Teemu Valtonen). Asiantuntijalausunnot Kangin ansioista apulaisprofessuuriin on pyydetty professori Maija Akselalta (Helsingin yliopisto) ja professori, emeritus, Jari Lavoselta (Helsingin yliopisto). Lausuntojen mukaan Kangilla on kelpoisuus ja ansiot apulaisprofessorin tehtävään sekä hyvät edellytykset täyttää määräajassa professorin palvelussuhteen kelpoisuusvaatimukset.

Kyseisen tehtävän tehtäväntäyttötoimikunta esittää yksimielisesti asiantuntijalausuntoihin sekä hakemusasiakirjoihin perustuen, että Kang otetaan tehtävään. Tehtäväntäyttötoimikunnan puheenjohtaja on päätöksellään vapauttanut PhD Jingoo Kangin opetusnäytteen antamisesta, sillä hänen opetusansionsa käyvät ilmi hakemusasiakirjoista. Kang täyttää johtosäännössä mainitut apulaisprofessorin palvelussuhteen ehdot ja tehtävämäärityksessä mainitut edellytykset.

Dekaanin ehdotus rehtorille on, että PhD Jingoo Kang otetaan apulaisprofessorin (vakinaistamispolku, Tenure Track), Educational Science, especially Science Education Research, tehtävään neljän vuoden määräajaksi 1.4.2025 lukien. Määräaikaisuuden perusteena on vakinaistamispolku, tenure track.

Esitys Dekaani kuulee tiedekuntaneuvostoa ehdotuksesta PhD Jingoo Kangin ottamiseksi apulaisprofessorin (vakinaistamispolku, Tenure Track), Educational Science, especially Science Education Research, tehtävään 1.4.2025 lukien.

Päätös Esityksen mukainen.
